Introduction

The program DISPLOT creates graphics display and hardcopy of the various geometric files used in grid generation and used as input to various models, and the scalar and vector variables from model output. This program uses GKS (Graphical Kernel System) subroutines at level 2b. The notes concerning compilers and hardware in the INTRODUCTION also apply to this plotting program.

The TRIGRID geometry files include boundary and contour files in DIGIT format, node files in NODE format, triangle incidence lists in TRIANG format, and the grid file in NEIGH format. These files all use the formats specified in Part III. In addition, geometry files that are used for input to various models can also be imported. These files are BINARY format for wave equation models developed within US Geological Survey (USGS), FESWMS format for Finite Element Surface Water Modeling System, TABS format for Tabs geometry files, and PTYPE for elements that use high order polynomial bases. The data formats are discussed under {TOP.FILE}OPENGRIDFILE.

The model data is read as free-format ASCII card images or as a binary file. The formats of these binary files are discussed under {TOP.FILE}OPENRESULTSFILE. It is probably easier for the user to make use of one of these formats rather than rewrite the input section of the code.

PC NOTE: There is one hardcopy device that is defined by PRTTYPE in the include file DEVICES.DEF. With GSS-GKS on a PC, this device is activated by loading the appropriate driver at run time. Only the driver that will be used needs to be loaded.

UNIX NOTE: There are several output devices available on workstations. They can be selected in {TOP.FILE}PRINT.

In the following subsections, an explanation of the menu system is given starting from the top menu down to the lowest-level sub-menus. DISPLOT is invoked from the main TRIGRID menu. When the program starts, it bypasses the top-level menu and goes directly to the OPENGRIDFILE menu to request an input data file. A description of this menu is found below. Menu items are selected by using the mouse to position the cursor over a choice, then pressing a mouse button. The various options are described below, menu-by-menu.
