Contents Of TOP Menu

After the grid has been read in and displayed, the following top-level menu appears across the top of the screen:

The entries in this menu indicate further sub-menus, which can be selected by placing the cursor on the appropriate word in the menu and then clicking the mouse, i.e. pressing any button on the mouse. (In release 2.b of GKS, no distinction is possible between different buttons on the mouse).

  1. In the following discussion, each menu item is prefixed or followed by a reminder in curly brackets of which menu the option appears in, e.g. option Edit in the TOP menu will be referred to as "{TOP}EDIT" or as option "EDIT in {TOP}"; option ADD in the EDIT sub-menu will be referred to as "{TOP.EDIT}ADD" or option "ADD in {TOP.EDIT}"
  2. All menus have a quit option which switches control upwards to the menu most likely to be needed next, usually the immediately preceding menu. Quit is selected by picking the menu title (the leftmost part of each menu).
  3. In all editing operations which involve moving nodes, such as MOVE or RESHAPE, depths at new locations of nodes affected by the changes are evaluated automatically by linear interpolation among existing nearby depths. In other cases, the user is offered the choice of setting depth by linear interpolation or by entering a value via the keyboard.
  4. When information is displayed in the right-hand panel, quantities shown in red can be changed by Picking the currently displayed value and then entering the required value via the keyboard. Some of the items shown in red can be toggled between two values by Picking the current value. Where a color is being chosen, the default color is shown as a solid bar; alter- native colors can be displayed in succession by Picking repeatedly at the color bar. Values shown in yellow cannot be changed by Picking.
