The Splitter is invoked by choosing SPLITTER from the main TRIGRID menu. The Splitter resembles the Editor in many respects and it will be assumed here that the user has already read the foregoing section on use of the Editor. The user is prompted first to enter, via the keyboard, the name of the input file (in NEIGH format) containing the grid to be split. The initial display shows the entire grid, but up to six levels of windowing (zoom) are permitted.
Splitter options are presented to the user in menus which appear across the top of the screen, and additional prompts are displayed when necessary. Selections from the menus are made by means of the mouse, but some editing operations require keyboard input also. The various Splitter options are discussed below. Unlike the Editor, the Splitter does not have an interim save facility.
