Experimenting with the EDITOR

All five interactive programs in TRIGRID have much the same windowing options. Picking DISPLAY in the top menu of the EDITOR brings up :

Full explanations are given in Chapter gif, but simply trying each of these options should show what their intended purposes are. If IN has been invoked more than once (up to six levels of windowing are permitted), then picking OUT will offer a choice of how many levels to window out. OUTLINE suppresses display of the whole grid and shows only the boundaries, to save time when dealing with very large grids; to toggle full display on again, pick REFRESH. Grids with more than 1000 nodes are initially shown in OUTLINE mode. After repeated PAN operations, one can return to the starting point by picking NORMAL. Quit the menu by picking DISPLAY:, the menu title.

Picking option {TOP}TEST brings up the sub-menu:

Most of the prompts displayed when any of these options is picked are informative enough to allow their use even without reading the full details given in Chapter gif. TRIANGLES facilitates monitoring of various properties of the depth grid triangles, by colouring each triangle according to a colour table, which can be set up beforehand or on-line. For instance, to colour triangles according to their mean water depth, pick TRIANGLES, then pick SET CRITERION in the right hand panel, then DEP. Answer Y to the prompt 'Set or reset color table?', and Y to 'Use prepared colour table?', then type in dcol.dat which is the name of a prepared colour table appropriate for the depths in the demonstration case. The grid should redraw automatically, with a marker in each triangle; the range of depth represented by each colour can be displayed by picking option INFO, then {INFO}TEXT and entering the filename dcol.dat . If no color table is chosen, the program will use internally set default values.

It is possible to colour fill the triangles instead of using a coloured marker, but in that case it is better to change the colour used to plot the grid lines from cyan to a darker colour. Pick {TOP}CONFIG, then LINES, then pick with the mouse on the patch of colour beside 'Primary color' in the right hand panel until a dark colour is reached. Return to the top menu and again pick TEST, then TRIANGLES, and now pick 'COLOR MARKERS' in the right hand panel. This should toggle to 'FULL COLOR'. Now pick ACCEPT and the grid will be redrawn with triangles in full colour.
